Blink Relais "Update" ...

12 June 2024

The blinker in this car had a sporadic fault, as the relais built in there got stuck sometimes. They got old and the relais itself you cannot get anymore.

Original blink relais (in my case A000 821 0963) aren't available anymore and used ones are over 100 EUR with good chances that they don't work either. I also didn't want to destroy the old one.

So my idea was to get a brand new "modern" blink relais and build it into the old casing. I purchased a Mahle MFL 20 (4x21W) for under 20 EUR and started to think. I put the three "modern" contacts of the relais (31, 49, 49a) onto a little circuit board. I printed an "adapter" to hold three round 4mm pins and this is put underneath the modern blink relais. The electrical connection between the pins is done by short cables. The "new" relais snaps into the old casing (luckily the old relais is higher than the new ones).

Well I tested it and it worked ... let's see how long ;-) ;-)
